Reagan Portrait

This is a sample portrait I just completed for Portraits Inc. (my art rep). The model is a little girl named Reagan and she was a doll. I saw a photo of her and did some investigating to find out who she was because she was so cute. As luck would have it, I had a friend that knew her family and so I was able to go and make my own photos of her. I believe she is 4 years old this month but she acted like she was a professional model. I painted this in oil on masonite 20"x30". It was great practice because I had never painted an African American before. It was a great challenge but I think well worth my efforts.

Molly's Dog

This is an oil portrait I just completed for a client in Atlanta. The dog's name was Max. He was a beautiful dog and very well mannered. He would sit and pose for me while I took tons of photos of him. It was almost like he knew what I was doing so he was on his best behavior. The only negative I had to say about him was that he shed like no other. I left there looking like a Yetti!

I just asked all my friends from FaceBook to come see my blog. Here on my blog I plan on showing what I am up to with my art. I will try and post something new at least every few days of some of my most recent work as well as some things I did in the past. I have been an artist since I was 5 and never wanted to be anything else. I love what I do and can't wait to start on my next painting. As you can see, I do a little bit of everything including children illustration to realistic oils. I love doing it all. Thanks for taking a look.

Emily Green Hat

This is the second painting of Emily. I wanted her in a hat so I found one on the internet and painted it on her. The image I found was a white hat but I wanted it to be much darker so I married the 2 images in Photoshop and fooled with the lighting and colors until I found what I wanted. This is oil on masonite 11x14

Goliath

I am working currently on a Children's Sunday School publication. This is a illus. I did of Goliath in full fighting gear for that piece. I am also doing David and the 2 opposing armies. I will try and post them as I finish them. I start off by scanning in my drawing /sketch into Photoshop. I then render it using various layers of transparent and opaque colors much like when I render an illustration using traditional paints like oil and watercolor. The cool thing about Photoshop is that you can undo and fix any problems.

Emily

This a small portrait I just completed of a beautiful girl I work with. I wanted to paint her because she has a timeless quality to her. I was going for a Rembrandt/Mona Lisa feel on this one. I love to do moody paintings like this with a strong light source for a dramatic feel. I am planning on using Emily as a model a lot more in the future. I will post paintings of her a they are finished.
